Day 6 of the House Lift – Ready to Lift

Everything in place and ready to lift the house.

They are actually going to be lifting the house and then knocking out the rest of the block walls and some of them are load bearing, so they want to make sure that there in not any weight on the walls before knocking them out completely.

Day 4 of the House Lift – Woops, missed this one

Somehow I missed this photo that I had taken on about day 4 of the lift.

Crack in the Kitchen wall from the house lifting
Crack in the Kitchen – the first of many?

When they were putting in the horizontal beems in the house to give it more strength and level it we had this rather large crack appear on our kitchen wall above the pantry. This is on my nice newly painted wall, so I’m a bit disapointed, but it was one of those things that you expect, but hope doesn’t happen.

Day 5 of the House Lift – Installing the I-Beams

As we left the house at 7:00 on Monday morning the truck arrived with three absolutely massive I-Beams to span the length of the house for the raise and restump of the house. They used the crain on the back of the truck and position the steel under the house as much as possible. Below are some photos of them getting the steel under the house:

While they were knocking the walls down they actually discovered that instead of the block walls being filled with concrete they were instead mostly full of beer cans. To be precise they were Castlemain XXXX Gold beer with labels from the 1982 Commonwealth Games, which made me laugh a bit. I also picked up a few pop cans from that era, including a Coke can with a pull tab lid…

Day 3 of the House Lift

Not much got done on day 3 of the Raise and Restump. While they were working on our place Northern House Raising got an emergency call from another home owner in Townsville. The back of this other persons house had collapsed and they needed some posts and beams put in right away to make the house safe again.

So, not much happened on our place, just a couple more steel beams were installed, that’s all…
