I had never really heard of such a thing - it seems like a simple step to help the environment, I think more people should do it!!!

That's a shame about the insurance thing. Here in greece (athens) i have found only one company doing green roofs, and even they are a pain in the butt to try and get a hold of. there's hardly any interest from what i can tell so far in green roofs, which is surprising given the fact that athens is in real need of them. the cemented marble city could use a little more green in their diet.

We really would like to get one at some point (at least a partial green roof, if we can't do the whole thing). The City of Chicago has been really pro-green roof. I know there's a requirement for some of the commercial developers to have a green roof to get their approvals from the city. City Hall has a green roof. The city also offers credits for Green roofs that are in addition to state and federal credits.

It's definitely on our wish list though.

The City also gives away a bunch of rain barrels.
